ELA Resources

Word Generation emphasizes 21st century learning goals, such as using academic language, developing an argument, reasoning analytically, reading to find evidence, reviewing data, discussing various perspectives, engaging in debate, and expressing well-reasoned positions in writing. Every two weeks we introduce a new topic and set of five vocabulary, or "Focus Words" words. Each subject (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies) works collaboratively to engage students in culturally relevant discussions.

i-Ready is an online assessment and instruction site that helps students with a path to proficiency and growth in reading and mathematics. It can either be student driven (based on diagnostic test to assess their skill levels) or teacher driven (assigned lessons that are aligned with the current curriculum) You can find the i-Ready Parent Guide here for more information.

Join in on the 50 Book Challenge fun by borrowing a book from the New York Public Library. Signing up for a Library Card is easy and free! Not only can you borrow physical copies of books, but you can also borrow ebooks and audiobooks through the Libby app!

Dial-a-Teacher

The UFT’s award-winning Dial-A-Teacher program is a homework help line for elementary and middle school students attending New York City public schools. Students or their parents are invited to call the hotline, which is staffed by classroom teachers who are experienced in all subject areas . Dial-A-Teacher began as a pilot program in 17 elementary schools in 1980 and went citywide in 1986. Today, it is fully computerized. Teachers communicate online with students and download their assignments so they can better guide them as the students work through challenges.
